Custom T-Shirt Printing: Methods, Ideas & How It Works
Last updated: 4 July 2026
Custom t-shirt printing is the process of putting your own design, text or logo onto a t-shirt using a method suited to the design and quantity — most commonly DTG or DTF for full-colour prints, and screen printing for large runs. With Magic Print you design a t-shirt in the browser, preview it, and we print and ship it free across India, with no minimum for individuals.
How custom t-shirt printing works
You add your artwork, photo or text to a t-shirt template, choose the colour and size, preview it, and order. We then print the design, cure it, quality-check it, and dispatch.
The right method depends on your design and quantity — full-colour photos, fine detail and small batches usually go on DTG/DTF; large single- or few-colour runs (teams, events, merch) are most economical with screen printing.
Custom t-shirt printing methods
DTG (direct-to-garment) prints full-colour artwork straight onto cotton — best for photos and detailed, one-off designs. DTF (direct-to-film) transfers work on more fabric types (including blends and darks) with vivid colour and good durability.
Screen printing is the most cost-effective for bulk orders of a simple 1–3 colour design (team tees, event merch). Sublimation gives all-over, edge-to-edge prints but needs polyester. Vinyl (HTV) suits names and numbers, like sports jerseys.
Choosing the fabric
100% cotton is the most popular for everyday wear and DTG printing — soft and breathable. Polyester and dri-fit suit sports and sublimation. Cotton-poly blends balance comfort, durability and cost. Tell us your use case and we will recommend the right blank and print method.
How to design your custom t-shirt
Open the Design Studio, pick a t-shirt style and colour, and upload a logo/photo or add text and graphics. Position it with the live preview, then add to cart. There is no minimum for individuals — order one or a hundred.
Design tips: use a high-resolution, transparent-background PNG for logos; keep the design inside the printable area; and remember light designs pop on dark tees (and vice-versa).
Bulk, team & corporate t-shirts
Custom t-shirts are a favourite for teams, events, college fests, startups and corporate uniforms because they get worn again and again. For bulk orders Magic Print offers tiered pricing, size/colour mixes, name-and-number personalisation and GST invoicing, with free delivery across India.
Caring for printed t-shirts
To keep prints looking new: wash inside-out in cold water, avoid harsh detergents and bleach, and skip the tumble dryer where possible. DTG/DTF and screen prints stay durable for years with gentle washing.
Frequently asked questions
Which t-shirt printing method is best?
For full-colour or photo designs and small quantities, DTG or DTF is best. For large runs of a simple 1–3 colour design (teams, events), screen printing is most cost-effective. Sublimation suits all-over prints on polyester.
What is the minimum order for custom t-shirts?
There is no minimum for individuals — you can order a single custom t-shirt. Bulk/team orders get tiered pricing that lowers the per-unit cost as quantity rises.
Are printed t-shirts durable and washable?
Yes. Wash inside-out in cold water without bleach and avoid the tumble dryer, and DTG/DTF and screen prints stay vivid for years.
Can you print team names and numbers?
Yes — vinyl (HTV) and DTF are ideal for names and numbers on sports and team t-shirts, personalised per person within a bulk order.
How long does custom t-shirt printing take?
Standard orders are produced in 3–5 business days and shipped free across India. Bulk/team orders take about 7–14 business days depending on quantity.
