ABSTRACT Loneliness can be identified as an inevitable factor particularly attached with old age while it has been severely affected on determining the harmony, happiness and wellbeing of a household. Since an aging is inevitable and isolation is evitable this paper attempts to investigate the major factors affect the loneliness of old-aged people in Sri Lanka.
For this purpose, households were selected as a sample based on Multistage cluster sampling method and data were collected by distributing structured questionnaires and direct personal interviews from the Badulla district in Sri Lanka. Multiple Regression Analysis Ordinary Least Squire-OLS methodologies were employed as the major data analysis method of the study where factor analyses were used to construct the exhibited variables in the model.
Results revealed by the study revealed that five major factors have affected the isolation of old-aged people in the area. Obviously, our findings show that demographic factors, income and physical health have not affected on loneliness of the old-aged people. Organizing community-oriented collaboration programs to reduce the loneliness of old-aged people in society could be recommended for the policy formulation from this study. Priya Krishnan. The study was conducted on a randomly selected sample of aged people in the range from years. The results indicates that adjustment of males was better that their counterparts for Health, Home, Social, emotional and Financial adjustment. Loneliness itself has been linked with increased risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality, elevated blood pressure and heightened inflammatory responses to stress, and modifications in transcriptional pathways linked inflammatory processes.
