The Nabataeans are of Arab origin who became rich by their monopoly on the trade of incense and spices in particular between the East and the Roman, Greek and Egyptian empires.
Mada'in Saleh has about dwellings and tombs that extend over some 13 kilometers. This photo was taken just after the sunrise. It was taken in surrounding of troubled Marib area where we have been constantly accompanied by police, army or Bedouins. Marib, one of the key centers of the trade routes of the region, was one of the largest and most prosperous cities in the Sabaean kingdom and the site of some of the world's earliest civil construction projects.
